Desiree and Jesse Robertson-DuBois have been growing food for themselves, their 3 children and their community for over 20 years. In 2021 they decided to finally start their own farm and settle in Northfield Ma. As of 2024 day to day operations and management is transferring over to their daughter Elspeth.
We believe that our animals should be loved and humanely cared for their entire lives, that the land we steward is managed for improvement and longevity, so that the food we produce is healthy for those that eat it. We passionately work towards these goals everyday, so that we all can feel good about where your food comes from. Thank you for supporting local farms!
The Finicky sheep flock joined the family in 2021 with just a couple dozen ewes, and has quickly grown since then. The flock spends the warm seasons grazing solar arrays across Massachusetts. In the colder months they return to their bedded pack barn in Northfield where they are fed hay and can safely have their lambs.
The Finicky goat herd joined the family in 2010 with just a couple dairy goats for ourselves. We started crossing to Boers(a meat breed) in 2017 to meet the growing demand for goat meat. The herd spends the warm seasons grazing/browsing pastures & brushy areas in Northfield and surrounding towns. In the Winter they join the sheep on the main farm to have their kids in a warm, bedded barn, and eat a lot of hay.
Finicky Farm's home is located in Northfield Ma on a small property nestled between Rt 63 and the Connecticut River. With gorgeous old barns to keep the flock and herd comfortable in the winter, an old brick house for the family; it is a beautiful blend of pastures, forest, old gullies, and a railroad that runs through the center, the perfect little farm to call home. This land was once stewarded by the Sokoki Abenaki for more than 10,000 years; we feel honored to carry on that tradition.
